The Massey Speech Project

Key words: Speech synthesis,smart house,screen-scraper.

This software is for entertainment purposes only! Here is the source os a screen-scraper that speaks the text it retrieves. A screen-scraper is a program that reads a web-page in HTML and returns in plain text the information which is required without a web-browser. Here we are using the MIT START web page
Start Web Page at MIT
which answers questions on almost anything. After compiling you need to type in a question (for example: who is the inventor of radio or convert 100 dollars into new zealand dollars) and sit back and let the program speak the answer! You need .Net2 or above of course and a VB.NET compiler. You also need to make sure that you have some speech voices installed. The bad ones usually come with XP and sound very robotic. You can buy ones which sound very human from AT & T,Cepstral etc Alternatively you can run the executable screenscrapevb.vb.exe file only which is in the Release folder (within the bin folder) if you are not a programmer. You must include all the other files too if you copy this folder to the desktop.(dlls etc).

Download the program here (in rar format for Windows XP)
